Where did Elysium get its name?
Some years ago when I first had the idea of opening my own business I heard the name ‘Elysium’ and I liked the sound of it. I looked up the meanings and it seemed fitting…
Elysium is derived from Ancient Greek mythology and the ‘Elysian Fields’, which was their version of ‘Heaven’. It’s where the ‘Great and the Good’ go. It also means ‘a place of future happiness’ or ‘heavenly’.

Claire Stokes - Owner & Beauty Therapist I trained at De Montfort University Lincoln fully qualifying and achieving student of the year in 1996. I have worked in and around Grantham for most of my career, beginning as a beauty therapist at the Relax and Revitalise Centre. This business later merged with Grantham Chiropractic Clinic and became what is now known as Living Health. I became Senior Therapist and after 5 years decided that it was time for a change and a new experience. I then went to work at Mulberries Day Spa in Lincoln where I took the position of Assistant Manager and stayed a year before being offered a part-time position lecturing at Grantham College. It was too much to be travelling in 2 different directions as I was working long hours and so I joined Simon Bailey and his team at Strand Management Urban Retreat, on a part-time basis to complement my Lecturing. I then went on to teach full-time for 3 years at the College before having a short career break to have my daughter. I then decided that it was again time for a new challenge and the time seemed right to launch my new business, Elysium. Everything has finally fallen into place, with a few hurdles along the way, and we opened on 26th September 2009. |
