Currently Amethyst Consultancy Ltd. is a one-woman company based in Martin, Licolnshire. I use external contractors where necessary, but only those I feel can meet my high standards of work.
I became self-employed in 1996 when I became a contractor to a company based in Salisbury. Their aim was to produce a private superhighway aimed at teachers and other education professionals which would act as a secure, fast, information database accessible both within school and from home controlled using password access. My role was to provide 'content' for the system either adapted from existing materials (books, leaflets, journals etc.) or developed specifically for the project.
During this time I have also been employed by Brunel University Design Department where, as well as working on a couple of web-based projects, I am also employed as a part-time lecturer in Graphics teaching web design, and as part of the Applications Through Design team teaching Energy Issues.
Since 1997 I have been branching out into the business world offering my services to other clients, my client list is growing steadily. To these clients I offer a full design service for their web site with continued back-up and updating. To date I have had nothing but praise - long may it continue!
I have also added working with schools to my portfolio, offering INSET courses and advice/services to help schools set up web sites and in-house material. Details of any courses running can be found on the training pages.
More recently I have been working as a contractor on short-term web-based projects with various companies, again broadening my experience and expertise in new software applications. A few of these have now been successfully launched onto the market-place and can be viewed via the clients page.
I believe that the web should be accessible by everybody and is a powerful medium when used correctly in any field, whether that is for information gathering, communication or pleasureable pursuits.
